Principal Goodale Announces Student of the Year
2010 Student Award Night at BBCHS
....Amanda Murphy, Law Enforcement Student from Manteno High School Announced KACC Principal Bosa Goodale at the 2010 Student Recognition Banquet.
Amanda earned the honor of becoming the Kankakee Area Career Center 2010 Student of the Year and will receive a scholarship award of $600. Principal Goodale invited last year's recipient, Kathryn Hester, to return to assist in presenting the award.
In announcing the award, Kathryn Hester, stated "As a previous winner of the KACC Student of the Year Award, I am honored to pass the award on to this year’s recipient. This student has said she has learned so much that I will use in my future. As a senior graduating and going on to college next year, I believe I will be able to use what I have been taught in the classroom and have knowledge I may not have had without this class."
Amanda received the honor of being the Student of the Quarter prior to being Student of the Year. This person not only participated in SkillsUSA, they also participated in various other extra-curricular activities throughout the community which were directly related to the course of study at KACC and others projects, which aided the social services community.
Amanda’s teacher stated that it was a pleasure to recommend Amanda. Not only did the teacher list quite a number of volunteer activities, she does an amazing job in the classroom and is quite the Leader. The instructor also described Amanda as compassionate, dependable, and possesses integrity beyond her years. Congratulations Amanda!
Other Winners:
First Runner Up for Student of the Year was Josh Riegel, Drafting/CAD student from BBCHS, who will receive an award of $400.
Second Runner Up for Student of the Year was Nathan Potter, Precision Metalworking student from Herscher High School, winning an award of $200.
Students of the year, according to Principal Goodale, are chosen by a committee comprised of professionals who do not work with the Career Center and who do not know the students personally. The students must submit a written narrative and have recommendation letters from both their home school and the Career Center.
